1.) Where did Happy Stan get his name?

When Stan chose the name Happy Stan’s Recycling, he was feeling really good that day about all the changes he was making with his previous company All Canadian Recycling Services Ltd. The truly funny thing is, both his lawyer and Victoria’s business registrar laughed when they heard the name. They then requested Stan to submit two other names but he refused.

2.) What happens to the materials after they have been collected?

Happy Stan’s Recycling delivers all the materials to our recovery facility in Port Coquitlam where our trucks are emptied into our secure warehouse, where materials are then, cut, baled, or chipped. The material is then sorted into different grades and then shipped to various brokers and material processing plants.

3.) Why do we pay for recycling services, when Happy Stan’s sells the materials?

Happy Stan’s does sell the material once it has been received, sorted, baled and then shipped. The sale of Material only represents about 40% of our revenue that is why we need to charge for services in order to balance the cost of collection, processing and recycling.

In addition, there are certain material types which cost us money to recycle either due to the complexity of the item, or the type of materials used to create a certain products. For example, it cost money to recycle a computer monitor because the lead contained in that monitor is a hazardous substance and needs to be treated as such.

5.) Can plastic retail bags be recycled?

8.) Why don’t you accept Styrofoam also known as Polystyrene?

Unfortunately, the majority of polystyrene products are currently not recycled due to a lack of suitable recycling facilities. Happy Stan’s is working on a solution but we have yet to find a sustainable option for Styrofoam recycling.

13.) Do you recycle all glass products?
No. You cannot recycle all glass products. Light bulbs, ceramics, glass mirrors, windowpanes, and dishes are not made with the same materials as glass jars and bottles, so they should not be mixed in with glass recyclables. Still, it’s the bottles and jars that we throw away every day, not the light bulbs and dishes that make up most of our trash.

14.) Why does Happy Stan’s Recycling Services advertise that they are not Government Funded?
Being government funded means that your revenue is being subsidized by the government. This allows a company to pay employees more, and run their operation in a way that at times, would not be possible without the government funding. We at Happy Stan’s like to run our business solely on service and the support of our customers; that means you. The more metals, plastics, and paper you drop-off, the more services we can offer, and the more jobs we can provide people with.
