Valentine's Day Poem

Recycle Your Love
By Karla Kehler

A delicate rose, that can make a heart sing
Hides from the winter and blooms in the spring
Eventually wilts, sinks into the ground
A new seed is planted, a new flower found
Mother recycles her seeds in the earth
Life reincarnation, nature’s rebirth
We all must contribute, to keep our land clean
May the sky bring us rain, and our love keeps it green
Your valentine may be, your husband or wife
Recycle your empties; your true love is life
We pay our respects, to cupid our host
For loves the one thing, that matters the most
So try to cut back, reuse and refill
So glaciers run pure, and Mountains stay still
Out true love is earth, it lets us breathe free
Taking for granted, the beauty we see
Together we’ll polish, this earth to a shine
If you will be, my sweet valentine

An Addition to the Family

We have a new addition to our family, Maya Jackie Kaminski, born July 9th, 2008 in Jamie and Candis' bathtub at home. Yes, it was planned that way...well almost. They actually wanted to have it in a large 10' swimming pool in the living room, but Jamie couldn't get the water hot enough.

Maya came into this world au naturel with zero drugs, for this, we would like to thank Kathy Welter who taught us that birth is natural and there is nothing to be afraid of, it is the single most wonderful experience in life. Kathy is a Hypnobirthing instructor who specializes in natural births and fear release. Again, I know, "Hypnobirthing" - well just think of a very, very, very experienced doula or birthing instructor.

Newsletter News

Our monthly newsletter almost ended up being an annual newsletter. We can thank little Miss Maya for that one. But not to fret, Maya is now much more mature and able to sit up straight, and go hours without a peep, so our monthly newsletter is making a comeback!

Our New Lighting System

Happy Stan's goes wireless AND powerless!

Since moving to our current location a few years ago we have had a constant dilemma with turning on the lights within our warehouse area. The lights were controlled by a circuit breaker panel at the far end of the warehouse, opposite the entrance. This meant that employees were required to navigate through the warehouse in minimal light each morning to the far end just to bring the lights on, and also to turn them off at the end of the day.

Thanks to some new technology and some environmentally friendly contacts a solution has been provided! With the help of Douglas Lighting Controls, and Echoflex Solutions we were able to install a Douglas relay panel to intercept the circuit breaker power and equip the panel with a wireless receiver/controller by Echoflex . Once the panel was in place all that remained was to put the wireless/powerless switch at the entrance. We now have complete control of the lights from the entrance and best of all…..without batteries! The switch on the wall doesn’t require any batteries to recharge or replace, the action of pressing the switch generates the power…..now how cool is that!?

We would again like to thank Douglas Lighting Controls and Echoflex Solutions for their donations to our cause and we hope this will also inspire others to look not just at recycling, but at all ways we can be more energy efficient. If you have a similar scenario feel free to contact Douglas Lighting or Echoflex as they might just have an energy efficient solution for you as well.

Market Crash

In November, we sent out letters informing our customers of what is going on in the market. The news has also played a big part in letting people know. Again, we sincerely apologize for the lack of notice for any and all price changes. For any customers that we may have overlooked or wish to discuss these changes, please contact us and we will give you an up to date briefing of where things are today.

On an uplifting note, currently most materials which we accept are moving, but at a cost. We are optimistic that this will continue until the markets recover. We are continually adjusting our processes and pricing to ensure that we are still offering a great service at a competitive price. As it turns out, the large network of customers, recycling brokers and processors which we have built-up over the past 20 years is much stronger than we could have possibly imagined, and has helped us out enormously over the past 3 months. We thank you all for your support!!

EPIC Expo 2009

Epic, the trade show on sustainable living is back and it will be bigger and better than last year. One great reason for all this excitement is that Happy Stan’s Recycling Services has teamed up with Indaco Manufacturing to showcase their Bag-to Nature Certified Compostable bags. Just another exciting reason for you to come and visit our booth! Oh yeah, and it is held at the NEW Vancouver Conventions and Exhibition Centre. Come down and check us out, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Tax Season = Confidential Destruction

This is a great time to do your annual purge of old files and tax information. Call or email Happy Stan’s for a quote on your bulk shredding needs.

Why Shred Your Documents?

Every Business Has Information That Requires Destruction
Every business produces confidential data. Customers lists, price lists, sales statistics, drafts of bids and correspondence, and memos are all examples of confidential data. All businesses also possess other people’s confidential data which is their legal responsibility to protect. These documents include employee records and personal information.

Unless proper precautions are taken, important information could end up in the dumpster where it is readily, and legally, available to anybody. It is said that your garbage is the single most available source of competitive and private information. By not destroying private and proprietary data, a company may be subjecting itself to not only the risk of loss of business, but it may also be exposing itself to criminal and civil prosecution.

Incidental Business Records Discarded On A Daily Basis Should Be Protected
If not controlled; everyday trash of every business will contain information that could be harmful to their operation and beneficial to their competitor. Discarded daily records such as: phone messages, memos, misprinted forms, drafts of bids and drafts of correspondence are especially dangerous because they contain current information that could be useful to a competitor today.

Every business is vulnerable because of their need to discard these types of documents. The only way to minimize this type of risk is to make sure such information is securely collected and destroyed. Please contact Happy Stan's Recycling Services to arrange your confidential shredding service today! (604-464-0242)
