CARI Workshop

Happy Stan’s Recycling was in attendance at the CARI (Canadian Association of Recycling Industries) workshop for electronics recyclers across Canada in Barrie Ontario. The tours of MaSeR (Material Separation & Recovery) and GEEP (Global Electric Electronics Processing Inc.) were the two main highlights of the workshop. The conference was very educational and the tours fascinating. The talks consisted mainly of EPSC’s (Electronic Product Stewardship Canada) progress in British Columbia.

While visiting Ontario, we took a tour of Metro Waste Recoveries’ single stream separation facility in Toronto. This facility is massive and processes an incredible amount of material in a relatively short period of time. The end products appeared to be quite clean and marketable. At the same time, we also visited a number of companies that could help us with the ongoing recycling of printer cartridges. Although we visited several companies in the industry, we have not yet decided to go with one particular printer cartridge recycler.

RCBC Recycling Conference in Whistler, BC

The RCBC conference in Whistler was packed full of exciting information and was great fun. It appeared that extended producer responsibility is top on most peoples agendas since this presentation turned into one of the largest group discussions of the conference. For Happy Stan’s Recycling, being listed as one of a small group of companies who do in fact send material to Teck Cominco for end-of-life recycling, was a definite highlight.

May Day Parade

Last month, Happy Stan’s proudly represented the Environmental sector in its first appearance in Port Coquitlam’s May Day Parade. This is one of the lower mainland’s longest run community parades. 10,000 to 15,000 spectators came out in the beautiful weather to watch the parade. The parade was so exciting, Happy Stan’s Recycling is already planning its float design for next years parade. “It was so overwhelming to be driving through the parade that I grew up watching each year, and to see so many floats, and spectators, it really shows Port Coquitlam’s community spirit!” said Jamie Kaminski, general manager of Happy Stan’s Recycling.
